Hi! Does anyone have any information at all about Satinwood Villa which sits on Ajax Peak? My family has plans to stay there this winter and I would love to hear anything (Good, bad, indifferent) anyone has to say about it. It will be our third trip to St. John, however we've always stayed in the Chocolate Hole area. Looking forward to exploring other parts of the island!
Thanks for any info anyone may have!!
Lisa

I've never stayed in Satinwood, but have stayed on Alax Peak. The views are amongst the best!
Satinwood is the totally solar powered villa with the waterless self composting toilets. I've heard it's a great villa. You should love it.

We (family of 5) stayed at Satinwood and loved it. It's a great family house. The lofts, the views, the pools, the stargazing -- magnificent. It's located at the very end of Magestic Mile, so it seems very private, but you're looking down into Coral Bay and beyond. The breeze is constant and the house is comfortable.
The solar power is helpful, too. One evening we were at Skinny Leg's when the power went out. We had left our children at the house playing cards with friends. We looked up and could see our house, the only lights on the entire mountain.
I think you'll love your time there. Any more specific questions, I'd be happy to answer them. Shelley

There is a company called Clivus Multrum that makes self composting toilets that use little or no water. I've been told that they have no odor, don't pollute and have to be cleaned out about once a year. They actually make systems that work for commercial operations. If the USVI's had their act together these type of systems would be required rather then be a relative novelty, imho.
By the way, once you do it a couple of times the drive up Majestic Mile is just that, majestic! It's paved the whole way and like I said the view is incredible.
