We're making our first trip so we wanted to know from what area to choose a villa. I'm kinda nervous about the driving-after-dark-thing, so i'm looking for a villa with hopefully pave roads.
Thanks!!

Our favorite place to watch the sunset was by far from the water at Maho Bay. I wish we would have come up with that idea earlier in our trip but next time, I will spend more sunsets there.

It was nice from the villa deck, but much nicer from the water with a cold Carib in hand. Cars even stopped on the road to watch it which was neat to see so many people enjoying such beauty!

p.s. glad you came out of lurking!

You may want to look into homes on Maria Bluff. It's not too far from town, and the roads are paved all the way out. Here is a Maria Bluff sunset:

We've also stayed on Contant Point, which again is close to town and paved. Here is a Contant Point sunset:

Basically, you want a south-facing villa for sunsets. Chocolate Hole is another area close to town facing south.

If your looking at chocolate hole look at either the hillside or the west side of the bay we stayed on the east side and didn't have very good sunsets

I absolutely love watching the sun set from the Beach Bar. May not be the best spot on the island for the view, but I love the atmosphere...drink in hand, music, kicked back in a chair at the bar...watching the sun slowly sink....fabulous.

If you can see St. Thomas from your villa, you'll be able to see the sunset. Remember, the sun will set in different spots during different times of the year.

So... the West End from Cruz Bay, Great Cruz Bay, Chocolate Hole, Devers Bay out the West side of Bovacoap Point.

RickG - I love any picture from Maho, so that has to be my favorite. What am I seeing in the background? It looks like a five mast sailing vessel. Are my eyes deceiving me?

Yep, that was one of those Monster Club Med ships sailed by one day when we were staying at Maho Bay Campground.

Did you know that the fifth mast is called the Spanker!

WOW!!!
Thank you everyone!! I am just dying to get there, those sunsets are MAGNIFICIENT!!!!
You guys have such great info!!
Thanks RickG, I didn't even think about how the sun moves during the year.
We'll just have to find the "right" villa and work-it from there.

Not a St John sunset but a nice one anyway. Pic of the Battleship USS North Carolina at Wilmington N.C.
