Having been to Salt Pond many times but never 'round the bend to Drunk Bay, I am look forward to going this year. I have seen many mentions on this forum of the little people (I'd call them totems) made of coral and shells at Drunk Bay. How did this practice start? Does anyone know the history or legend?

Snorkel - I don't know the history but here are a couple of pictures that we took from Drunk Bay in 2005.

In the second picture, that's me in the hat...the yellow hat...with the sunglasses.

Wow - How cool. My husband and I aren't sure who's cuter the guy in the yellow hat or the big coral guy! :D thanks for the reply and the pictures....we'll be there Sunday.

Not sure when it started either, but I don't remember seeing them during our first trip in 1995 - or maybe there just weren't as many and I didn't notice? Does anyone else remember NOT seeing "little people" at Drunk Bay?

That is an awesome question snorkelqueen. I have seen them but have no idea of the history. I hope some of the locals can help with the answer!!

I'd wager that some creative person saw the white rocks and driftwood and just made a little man out of it. I did my daughter's initials back in 2004. The rocks just lend themselves to doing something fun.

But Drunk Bay is cool. So utterly unlike anything else on StJ

Kinda like the piles of stones over on Aruba by the Natural Bridge.

I'm not sure of the history of the Jumbies at Drunk Bay, but it's one of my favorite places on island. I have dozens of pics from over the years, but this one from 2004 is one of my favorites.[img][/img]

This is great! I'm glad I asked! Even if we never know the history, this is a very cool place.

 Thanks for sharing JT... I can't pic a fav, maybe the one with the hair
I just woke up, looked at this all tired, then woke up immediatly from laughing. I like how you picked up some trash while you were there too, very cool.
