What is the weather like in November?

I'm thinking of going to STJ for a week in November, to do some diving. Not sure if husband wants to come, but I'll believe I will go by myself otherwise.

We have only been to the Caribbean in late April and Early May. This year we actually had a lot of rain, but otherwise the trips in that time of the year has always been very good when it comes to the weather. What can I expect weatherwise in November? Anyone know how the diving conditions would be?

Any help appreciated.

We've been to St. John in November twice---once it was perfect all week, the second time (in 2003) we experienced torrential rains. So its hard to say. But as others will point out, even if you get a little rain, its not likely to rain all week as it did in 2003---that was an abberation. Statistically, November is one of the rainier months (but not the worst). Less hot than summer, which is nice. Its a nice to be on the island----restaurants have opened up from their September-October closings, but its not as busy as high season.

Hi Maggy,

We've only traveled in November. We've never had a "perfect" week, but always enjoyed good weather. A few showers here and there (always on the Cinnamon beach day :) and some overcast days, but nothing that ever stopped us from doing much.

We arrived the week after the torrential rains in 2003 and still had an excellent week. Driving around was a bit challenging due to road flooding, so we stayed pretty close to home (Estate Lindholm) that year.

Enjoy,

janet

We go most years in November, including 2003. The water is warmer and the hills are pretty green. The bugs are reasonable. In 2003 we left the day it started raining and had to drive around a boulder in the driveway.

One nice thing about November is that places have done their maintenance and painting and everyone's open.

We'll have 6 their October 27-November 3.

Thanks all! I guess if you compare to what the weather is likely to be in Sweden in November, this would be paradise

RickG - I don't understand what you mean with "We'll have 6 their October 27-November 3." Are you going to be there then?

But I do understand "skol" and it's spelled "skål", but you don't have å (pronounced like a in all) on your keyboard. Unfortunately I have only coffe to drink at the moment;-).

Hi Maggy,

Good for you going by yourself in November!

Have a wonderful time!

Thanks Jo Ann!

Husband can come if he decide he wants to. I also have to get permission from work regarding vacation. We are supposed to implement a new system on Nov 1st, but I don't believe that it's ready then. But it can be a factor when I ask for time off.

I also need to find a good, safe, affordable place to stay, specially if I will be alone.

And honestly - I also consider Virgin Gorda. I would rather stay in STJ and maybe meet some of you guys, but I would very much like to dive with Dive BVI, since I really like them. So I'm a bit unsure what to do at the moment.

Sorry, I was working from my Blackberry in the airport during a layover that never ended.

Yes, we'll have a group of 6 at Eaglesnest on Great Cruz Bay the week of Halloween - October 27-November 3. If you've never done Halloween on STJ you're in for a surprise. Definately bring a costume! There are Cruz Bay and Coral Bay parties and costume contests with lots of live music.

RickG - Seems like my party will take over Eaglesnest when you leave. We arrive the 3rd of November and leave the 10th. We live in Fairfax, VA. Would love to hear any feedback you have on the place!

RickG, to be honest, I haven't done Halloween at all, much less in STJ. But it sounds like a lot of fun and probably a time for using the word "skål" (you found the å on the keyboard - good job!).

That week is school break in Sweden, so I guess the flights to the US would not be suitable for going on standby basis. Luckly I work with planning our longhaul pilots, so maybe I can get a cocpit seat.

Well - it's nice that some of you guys are there, if (or shall I say when) I or we come again.

Maggy - we are going too for the first time in November (15-23rd) and are curious how the vibe will be. We've only ever been in May. One trip was very WET but the others we enjoyed perfect weather. A wet day on STJ is better than a gorgeous day here so I am ok ... I am just hoping for no hurricane damage.

Flip-flop - I certainly do agree that a rainy day on STJ would be better than a nice November day at home. Personally I think November is the worst month. Dark, rainy, windy and no leavs on the trees. Not yet cold enough for snow. Just dark - yikes!!

Lets just hope for a nice November in STJ without that much rain and no hurricane damage. I haven't really thought about that one.

Aroobagirl, you are local! We met the Eaglesnest owners a couple of years ago on island. They were finishing a big renovation and added the swimming pool. I've been wanting to stay there ever since. The setting is great. I'll try to post some pics while we are there.

Cheers, RickG
