On May 3rd, 2007, I chartered a full day sail-snorkel adventure with Captain Doug onboard the Gypsy Spirit II. It was the second time I'd ever chartered with Cpt. Doug. He is a man who is knowledgeable of the sea and sail. He is generous with his knowledge and one may participate in the actual workings of the boat. After he considered the conditions of the sea for the day, Cpt. Doug took us out to a special spot for snorkeling. No doubt one will experience sea life that can't be observed when snorkeling from the shores of St. John. Cpt. Doug peppered the adventure with history of the isles and cays. After a morning of undersea amazement, he prepared a perfect lunch that replentished my energy but didn't slow me down. Then it was off to an afternoon snorkeling spot for more sea life, sun, and history. The long, lazy sail back into Cruz Bay was one of the most memorable afternoons I had- the breeze in my hair, the blue Caribbean sea, the ropes clanging against the mast, and the conversation between the 4 other guests, Cpt. Doug, and myself. This moment lived up to the Gypsy Spirit name. We talked of the universe, higher powers, spirituality, and nature. By time we disembarked in Cruz Bay, I not only felt like I got more than my money's worth of adventure, I was more connected to the universe. I highly recommend the Gypsy Spirit II sail-snorkel adventure. Stop in Alex's "Bringin' in the Fun" (next to the Banana Deck)for a latte and book your trip with Cpt. Doug. Enjoy!

Great stuff, Tom. Captain Doug's snorkeling spots are fantastic! I've never seen anything like that, ever. Including the shark!
