Countdown begins....

Headed back to St John on Saturday for TWO weeks to celebrate my big 5-0!

Can't wait!

So we are staying on a side of the island I am not familiar with:

https://www.google.com/search?q=skytop+ ... lfi=hd:;si:

Are there any beaches on this side that we can access over here? How are the bugs/stinging plankton/weather right now? We were in St John 3 years ago from 4/15- May 1 so I assume we can expect similar weather?

Hi there, I think I remember your first trip a few years ago...Bay Rum Breeze? We'd rented Bay Rum Breeze prior to your stay there.

Which villa are you renting? There are only a few in Skytop. We rented Sol Inclination in 2008. The others that come to mind are South Shore Villa, Croix Vista, and Palm Vista.

Sol Inclination is hands down the best view we've ever had out of 13 villas. I can comment more if that's where you're staying :)

The beaches along the south shore have much rougher water than the north shore beaches. We had direct access to Reef Bay on our trip last year and it was beautiful but we never got in the water...though we had a 2 and 5 year old with us, so that was part of why we didn't risk it. We did see people snorkeling.

What exactly does this mean? Can we go in the water?

Reef Bay has great snorkeling but on some days the entry and exit are a little difficult but well worth it. Last time we were there, like all spots seem to be, it was pretty crowded for a more "remote" snorkel spot.

As you drive in to Fish Bay I know you keep heading right toward the water. There is parking for 2-3 cars on the rode and then take the "rope trail" to the beach. Looking at the water you are far right of Reef Bay. We usually walk to the left 50-100 yards and enter the water there, be careful of sea urchins. Once past the breakers there are very nice coral heads out there. I would say it is an intermediate to advanced snorkel especially if there are waves.

Thanks for the info Pulley....

Is the beach area walk-able for any distance on the south side bays?

We have walked from that entry onto Reef Bay all the way to the ruins on far east side of Reef Bay. There is one point of rocks that you have to navigate around but it is worth it. We actually do this we want to show folks the petroglyphs.

We drove down and way up to the back of reef bay road. Where exactly is this access point where the rope is? We took marina drive and then turned into reef bay road. Off the beaten path book says to drive .2 mile till the concrete ends but reef baby road is paved and long.....

Any help would be appreciated.
