It's more then sad. The whole dang system in the USVI is 3rd world crooked. Graft is so openly blatant, from the building inspectors, to the police, to the elected officials, and nothing is changing in the foreseeable future, [except, unfortunately the island].

And that differs how from any little local town, big city or Washington DC?

I read so many letters to the editor of Tradewinds and they were so passionate against Sirenusa......
I knew they would override the governors veto...
What makes me sick is that STJ is now becoming all that it was not meant to be.
We have only 1/3 to develop and with these 4 story buildings they take away so much from the landscape.
God forbid something happens on a 4 story building and our fire equipment can do nothing.
Sometimes to me it seems like there is some sort of unrest going on.
I left in the summer of 2005 and have only gotten back once......
I keep in touch with my friends and read tradewinds........
I think fishy is a good word........

The whole thing sounds really shady that they would override a veto despite the strong opposition voiced by STJ citizens and other groups.

However, if there is any truth to the developer's contention that he would lose his financial support(and presumably go belly up) if the variance was not permitted, wouldn't you rather see a completely built project than an abandoned construction site that might take years before someone took over?

I am not advocating for further development....just playing devil's advocated and trying to find SOME bit of good news in all of this mess.

I totally agree it needs to be completed. I just am not in favor of it being 4 stories.
I have not seen it up close, as I have not been on island this year.
I had a hard enough time digesting Grande Bay when I would come from STT on the ferry......
It may be natives/locals that are building and getting the jobs........but the people that will purchase will rent these out do not live on STJ.
Even Grande bay has not completely sold out, in fact people who purchased Grand Bay property way back in the beginning before we even broke ground are selling, after there was so much backlash........
All in all it is not good in many ways.
If STJ had a planner, things may be different...
I have always thought the goverment did not really care about STJ.........
With the new administration, I hope that will change
