I have heard multiple conflicting info about departing St Thomas airport
I am on American.
Some say you must arrive 3 hours prior to flight time.
Others say you must check in at least 3 hours prior, but only need to arrive 90 minutes early if you have already checked in and just need to check luggage.
Advice?

If you have baggage to check, you need to be at the airport 3 hours before your flight. The baggage/checkin counter closes 90 minutes prior to the flight. You're basically at the mercy of AA workers, not how long security/customs are.

poidog - so if you check in on line , have your boarding pass and no bags to check, is 90 minutes enough with AA?

Yes, dependent on customs and security.

So just a follow up on this topic.....
I checked in on line the day prior to departure, but still had bags to check.
I arrived at the airport right at 90 minutes before flight.
Had a brief chat with an unhelpful AA attendant.
Apparently since I had checked in already I did not need to arrive 3 hours prior, just had to make the 90 minute mark for my bags.
Customs was 5 minutes.
