OK, I think I have to give up reading

Trip starts in nine days.

Between invisible stinging plankton, fires in Cruz Bay, out of control pesticide companies, fence construction blocking all the views, and impenetrable Saharan dust I'm wondering whether I should just forfeit the money and stay home!

[Ha ha not really. At least this year the forecast doesn't say rain every day.]

I know we're gonna have a great time. But man, if this was my first trip I would wonder why I ever booked this place.

Be sure to give us your "on-island" update on what is going on! Wonder if LONGBOARD will be open when you arrive?

A common thought when things look a little more problematic here is:

It's paradise not heaven

Wow, Exit Zero, you hit the nail on the head with those 4 words! Especially good for people who expect EVERYTHING on St. John to be as fantastic and perfect as the views.

Remember, the first thing in life that you have control over is how you feel about it. Well, I feel jealous about your trip!

Right behind you GraysonDave! And since I'm bringing a newbie with me, I was a little concerned about some of the not-so-good things happening right now. Then I thought "It is what it is" and I'll be in my happy place and it will all be fine. :D
Looking forward to trying Longboard and Cruz Bay Landing, along with all my usual haunts.

Gotta agree with everyone. Don't sweat it, we're going to have a picnic! Amy and I are going to most likely enjoy the free happy hour at St.John Inn, but hopefully we can meet you after.
Can't wait!

You will be fine! We have been unable to travel for years so we really looked forward to this week. Yes, we saw all the seaweed from the plane Sat but none at the beaches. The sealice is a pain but we are lucky not to have any reaction. The Sahara dust isn't a big deal. The weather has been wonderful! The North Shore water is crystal clear. The only negative to us is the inability to hit 2 beaches a day since there is no parking available anywhere most days.

Maybe people researching their first trip will choose another island and leave more room for us  . I know if I read all of this before booking a brand new place I'd look elsewhere. HA!

Amen! ski2play. . . . . raking seaweed on the beach would sure beat working any day of the week!
