The Army Corps of Engineers has issued another extension for comments related to the marina proposed in Coral Bay. This is the second extension. The Corps indicated that this extension was due to "various reasons". If you want to write but just didn't get around to it, this is your chance. Go to savecoralbay.com for information about where to send your letter.

THANK YOU TO ALL THE ST. JOHN LOVERS WHO HAVE ALREADY WRITTEN.

I heard a great quote on NPR this morning. The story was about the FCC's plan to regulate the internet as a public utility. Tom Wheeler, FCC Chairman said, "Did I pay attention to the fact that there were 4 million comments filed? Of course! That’s record!" Although we will not generate 4 million responses to the Army Corps of Engineers application, it would be great if they said we received X number of comments and that is an Army Corps record.

The comments do matter. Tom Wheeler just said so. Your comments matter! The numbers matter. The content matters. The fact that they are earnest letters from individuals matters. That is to say that if they are not machine generated form letters with peoples' names at the bottom, they carry more weight. We very seldom have an opportunity to affect a decision this large. This is that situation. What you say and what you do does matter. This is democracy in its purest form where you are not represented, but are in the "room" and get to have your say. This is not unlike the traditional town meetings that are still held to this day in small New England towns.

I alone cannot affect the outcome. You alone cannot affect the outcome. Together we matter and we can change the direction of St John.

Don't skip the meeting. Turn out. Affect the outcome. Make a difference.
