August travel??

We just returned from 10 days on island and are trying to plan our next trip. We have generally traveled in the May/June timeframe (with the exception of our winter getaway in Feb. of this year). Next year we would like our daughter and son-in-law to join us but due to our daughter's grad school committments we will have to wait until she graduates in early August of next year. What can you tell us about August on island? I know there is an increased possibility of tropical storms and hurricanes but is it noticeably more humid? Are the trade winds typical or do they slow/stop? Is there an advantage to waiting until September? Any advice from those that travel late summer/early fall would be greatly appreciated. Thx!

Have been a several times in July and August and am headed down August 17th this year! To tell you the truth, I don't notice that much difference, other than paying closer attention to the tropical weather report.
In all the times I've visited, I've only had A/C once and never really found myself wanting it a whole bunch, but have generally been lucky to have homes with good air flow!
Some restaurants may be closed (La Tapa for instance).

The only thing we miss in August is that Miss Lucy's is closed.
The temp really doesn't seem that different from when we go in April. The water temp is noticeably warmer however, which is a good thing.
We did have some sahara dust in August last year, but it wasn't that big of deal. Made for gorgeous sunsets.

We haved traveled in August three times owing to the fact that my son is a teacher and finishes the second summer semester around the 5 th. Truth be told, we have had the greatest weather in August and we are doing the 8 th to the 18 th this year. We did about 10 trips in May and finally reconsidered after having extensive rain for the last 5. We then switched to our favorite end of October / early November time frame, but encountered Christmas winds and high surf making the Noth Shore beaches off limits for us " old timers". Now that we can finally afford to go in season, the water is too cold and the pools are freezing. So August has become sublime all the way around.
