I'm not sure what happened, but my olympus camera I use for underwater shots has bitten the dust. Is there anywhere to buy a camera on St. John?

Unfortunately, no, but if you take the Charlotte Amelie ferry over to St. Thomas, Royal Caribbean has some nice underwater cameras. You might want to call them first and ask what's in stock. This has happened to me before so I feel your pain!

I was afraid that was going to be the answer. I don't want to take the time to go over to STT, so I will just have to steal my sister's camera for the time being.

On my last trip I had a brand new D20 that went blank in the middle of my snorkel about 5 days in. Looked like water seeped in and it was fine at the beginning of that snorkel so I KNOW I shut everything good. Had my old D10 as back up and the same darn thing happened to it the next day.

Luckily it was toward the end of our trip. This year I'm bringing an Olympus I bought to replace it and I'm afraid of that happening to it! I'm considering finding an inexpensive back up. Who wants to lose a day going over to St. Thomas?

We had to do that several years ago. I can tell you that it can be done in a half day. We had an underwater photography class scheduled when one of our cameras got lost underwater during a dive. We left at 1 and were back for supper.
Our solution to that problem was to buy a waterproof Olympus and a waterproof case. When the case leaks the camera will have some protection on its own.
Good luck.

Same thing happened to us for our 09 trip...the one we bought 2 yrs before on STT ( ferried over from STJ)

leaked...but at the time there was a Royal Caribbean at Mongoose and we got one there....I do however second the option of getting the housing...we've had ours since 09 and knock on wood...so far so good...it gets used here in the pool and anywhere there is water..
