3 out of 5 of us are on diets for diabetics. Is it going to be easy to find meat, chicken, fruit and veggies and cheddar cheese on St. John? Im packing all of our diabetical snacks cause those are hard to find even here in VA. I really don't want to pack perishable stuff if I don't have to.

All readily available on STJ - maybe more expensive than you are used to (maybe not) but no problem finding them.

You can find just about anything you can find at your local supermarket at Starfish. Its the biggest, most modern type grocery on island. Another great place which doesn't look like ANYTHING from the outside but has a fairly good selection and I think the best prices is Pine Peace. Both of these are on the way out of town toward Chocolate hole.
Pine Peace is very easy to miss as there is just a sign at the street but the actual market is set back a bit from the road and to the side. It is right before you hit a very steep hill, Jacob's Ladder.
Another option that I like is Dolphin. Also decent prices and good selection, esp. on produce.

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised at the markets on St. John.... even the little ones. I never made it to Starfish, but I thought Dolphin was great...especially the produce. I even found cheddar cheese at Love City Mini Mart in Coral Bay, so I don't think you'll have any problems at all!

Pine Peace by far the cheapest but doesn't have the selection Starfish has. Our routine was hit Pine Peace first then head to Starfish for anything else Pine Peace didn't have. If your not a cheap a$$ like me just hit Starfish nice store and they have everything.

My sister is insulin dependant and had no problems finding the right foods. The one problem she did have was when the butter got dumped on lobster by the server at the Fish Trap. Butter plays hell with her sugar levels - she was pogoing for a while.
Cheers, RickG

Tom- I did the same thing plus a few sticks of sopresatta. Nothing like cheese and salami at happy hour by the pool!

OK, I think its Peace and Starfish for us. I love all the food porn on here, gives me a good idea of how the restaurant food is! I have seen PLENTY of things we can eat. No one is on insulin (yet) we control things with diet and exercise. Good thing Rum is OK! No beer though.
