Too sad. That is just one of those things that makes you wonder "what the hell is wrong with some people?"

Aw, that is so sad. I never understand why people think that is okay.

That's awful -- just a stupid, senseless act. I hope that the publicity doesn't inspire any copycats, but I hope it does cause someone to brag to their friends... and get caught!

This kind of behavior is absolutely disgusting and abhorrent to me.
The only way to ensure that this doesn't happen is to educate people and mobilize them.
Make sure that everyone understands what is acceptable and keep an eye out for vandals (kind of like a neighborhood watch).
If everyone takes responsibility then maybe this kind of thing will stop.

I just don't get some people. What purpose does this serve for them?

It is a very sad commentary on these times we live in. When someone finds it necessary to vandalize the petroglyphs that have not been touched for centuries. The park rangers are very good about being diligent in their efforts of protecting the park but they cannot be everywhere at all times.

Actually, this is the 3rd time they have been 'vandalized'. Not that this is not horrible, but at least this was not
on the glyphs themselves, and was done in paint that could be removed. On 2 other occations, someone has actually
re-carved a few of the symbols. The thinking was that they would be seen better.....idiots.

Are there any signs out there warning people not to touch them, etc?

Ya know, Ant....I don't think that there is.

I can't recall if I saw anything - that was why I asked. I wish the park did a little better job about that kind of stuff. Most people don't realize you can't collect shells, etc. from the park beaches. There has to be a better way to inform people...
