				Internet shopping

Does anyone have a good list of companies with internet ordering who ship to St. John? We have used JC Penney, Walmart and Macy's successfully - but still hit or miss depending on what you order. It's frustrating to go all the way through the ordering process to find that particular item can't be delivered! I've also struggled with which ones are USPS and need a PO Box and which are UPS or FedEx and can ship to address. We've had to cancel orders when they got to the post office on St. John and were sent back to Puerto Rico. Any help is appreciated.

I'm afraid that the answer is: not many. We have reconciled ourselves with our mainland home being a transshipment facility, with frequent deliveries, repacking, and regular trips to the post office. Just part of the joys of being a villa owner...
All the best,
Kevin

I have found Macy's to be very reliable. Generally my order arrives within a week. If the order is over $100, it ships for free. I have also discovered that Macy's tends to run sales at the weekend, so it's worth waiting and placing an order then.

Pia's list is impressive, but there's another reason why we indulge in our ship to our mainland home / unpack / repack / reship exercises. The vast majority of companies willing to ship to St. John will not do so via USPS, and insist on using UPS or FedEx. On the mainland, that distinction is a painless one, but for the VI, quite painful. A 12" x 12" x 5.5" Large Flat Rate USPS box with fifteen pounds packed in it will cost $17.45 at the post office; $15.80 on line. It promises three day shipment, which isn't true, but the vast majority of our recent packages have arrived in six days or better. That same box shipped by UPS or FedEx, with six day delivery, will cost about $240, fifteen times as much! The Post Office is obviously subsidizing shipments to US Territories; it is as if they are pretending that there isn't a lot of water between the VI and the mainland (or that the VI is on equal footing with any of the fifty states). We always ask, but as soon as USPS is off the table, the goods ship inexpensively via UPS or FedEx... to our mainland home.
All the best,
Kevin

Amazon basically has everything, so as long as they ship to you, you're good. Also, they have the prime membership which is free shipping on everything. Not sure if that applies to shipping everywhere but worth looking into.

				Pia,
Thanks for the list. I'm going to save that! Right now I have 20 beach bags ($1 apiece at Christmas tree shop!) and extra safe keys waiting for me to package them and send via us mail.
