Can any of you that fly from DFW tell me what you consider a "good deal" in today's market? I found $513 RT with no more than 7 hrs. travel time either way. I think that might be as good as it gets these days, but my husband thinks we should wait. Thoughts?

Well, I fly out of Houston and haven't seen a fare that good in the last two or three years from here. Current houston fare for June is around $700-$800 depending on day & time. I would not wait on that one.

Hi there, my wife and I have flown out of DFW the last six trips to STJ (via Miami) and $511 is the best price we've seen on a major carrier (usually American) in the last few years. You can do it cheaper on Spirit Airlines via Ft. Lauderdale, but without going into much detail on that fiasco of an airline, I'll just say let the buyer beware with them as they are the antithesis of customer-centric and with limited flight and delays often, you can stuck easily going or coming back.

There's also a way to do it a little cheaper by flying DFW direct to San Juan, PR and then catching a puddle jumper on a local Caribbean airline over to STT, but haven't seen the prices low enough to make the logistics worth it.

Bottom line, if $500/ticket on a major carrier is in your budget, I think that's your best bet. For some additional perspective, we booked last August (2013) for a trip this June (2014) and we paid $511 after watching airfares for a while. I'll also add that we've often seen the fares around $700 regardless of how far out you're booking and have started looking at flying on weekdays like Tuesday to chase lower fares than higher vacation traffic days like Saturday and Sunday.
