Day 5.
First, for those of you asking about pictures - I'm going to work on that this weekend. We've been gone from our house almost every free minute since we returned home, but I'm hoping tomorrow will be different. Planting flowers, yard work and uploading pictures are our goals!!
Wednesday morning on St. John arrived sunny and clear. When I opened the door leading out from the bathroom I was so glad to see the sun coming over the hill! I sat outside chatting with mom and dad for a minute and we were all ready for the beach. We quickly got everyone ready to go and off we went to Cinnamon Bay. Parking lost was really empty. We grabbed our gear as we were swatting at those tiny, flying vampires swarming our cars. Headed off down the path past the cabins. I'm not so sure that I want to stay there, but my dad thought they didn't look half bad. We'd stopped for another breakfast at Baked in the Sun this day and I'd decided breakfast should be chocolate chip cookies! YUMMY! Just a side note - we enjoyed everything we purchased at this bakery and found the prices very reasonable. The breakfast sandwiches were about the same price as we'd pay for them in KC, but the baked goods were so much cheaper! I was shocked!
Anyway, we arrived at the beach and a tropical shower immediately hit, threw everything under the neat sheet and stood there in the brief sprinkle. There was absolutely no one on the beach that morning except us and more skeeters. We swatted and doused in sunscreen and headed for the water. We found if the bugs were bad upon arrival at the beach we could hang in the water until about 10am and then they'd be gone from the beach. It worked most every day. Cinnamon was very pretty too and we had a great time relaxing and swimming and talking. Hubby snorkeled again, but I was lazy still. About time that we had decided it was almost time to leave another shower hit and it was pretty intense. We hung our rafts over our heads and stayed in the water. Mary Jo who is a lurker on this board and her hubby happened to be in the water near us and she came over. Again - identified by the neat sheet. It was fun to talk with them while it rained and exchange some info about the island and our trips. The neat sheets kept our stuff dry during the shower and when it was over we gathered out stuff and headed for Skinny Legs. We found that driving with all the windows down allowed us to dry out before our arrival. We sat down and placed our drink order. Their 3.00 drink of the day was a cheap way to drink and always good. The drinks were always plenty relaxing here if you get my drift. Most of the mixed drinks were 5 bucks if I remember correctly and burgers ranged from 8.00-11.00. Just in case someone is a first timer and wondering about prices! After our first drink their were many smiles and much relaxation all around. Also tried a mango painkiller that day - yummy! No one ever wanted to be the drivers to go home from Skinny Legs, but we rotated so it was all good!
After lunch we had time for a relaxation in our pool and more drinks. At this point we started to realize that the three men in our group were getting a little loopy. Then it was clean up time for the sunset sail. Met Sheree from Calypso again, the boat was brought in and we were taken aboard. I loved that you lose your shoes before you even board, I'm sure it keeps the boat much cleaner, but it also adds to the relaxation. The captain Scott and mate Adam were so nice and wonderful hosts. We were the only six for the trip and having that whole catamaran to ourselves was awesome. 65.00/pp and it was a great time. Adam was very entertaining and kept the drinks flowing. We sailed out around the smaller islands and the water out there was so pretty. They told us many stories about all the islands and their lives on St. John. It was a perfect night for the cruise. They served appetizers and although the men stayed pretty calm, they were definitely enjoying their drinks. My mom finally told Adam he was not allowed to serve my dad anything else. We wanted him to be able to walk once we hit land!! They guys all insisted they weren't drunk!
Back on land, many thanks and tips to our hosts and off we headed to Margarita Phil's. We got a table inside to combat the skeeters and placed our orders. I did get one of their huge margaritas that was soooo good and all the women shared it. I'm pretty sure it's a sign of the alcohol consumed when the women each had to place an order for their men. I shared the blackened chicken nachos and the carnitas burrito with my brother and both were wonderful! For six meals, one appetizer, three beers, seven bottled waters and one big, 15.00 marg our bill total was 156.00. We didn't find that bad at all. We all enjoyed the meal and the staff were very attentive and fun. It was great to hear their stories. After dinner we had to pry the keys away from one driver and give them to someone who might actually get that car home. Poor A had her first driving experience late at night that night! I drove the other car and the guys all made it to bed! We finally convinced them they'd had a lot to drink when they pretty much didn't remember going to Margarita Phil's in the morning! Pretty funny! Everyone ended up sleeping really good that night and once again - it was such a relaxing day we couldn't believe it!
