There is never a dull moment on St. John.

The mosquito invasion has slowed down and now the Sahara dust has arrived. It’s so bad right now that the V.I. Department of Health issued a warning to residents about it this week.

Let's hope that keeps up for a while. The Sahara dust last summer was one of the factors in the light tropical weather we had last year.

MrB - if what you said is true - I have never been so happy to hear what your post said because I have to be honest...don't know if it's post traumatic stress or not, but I am scared of this summer hurricane predictions.
I had never heard of the Sahara dust before. I am assuming it is sands from the Sahara desert. Too crazy. Think I would DEFINITELY take them over the skeeters!

The sahara dust makes for interesting sunsets though. I've posted this picture before, but here is a sunset I took when the dust was around:

I do hope it goes away though for everybody's health's sake.

Is that what that was?! We went to Tortola Monday and the way back (4pm) it was REALLY HAZY. Did not know if it was sea fog or what. Made for very poor camcorder shots on the ferry. Thanks for the info!

As pertains to taking photographs, I'll take the skeeters any day over hazy skies!

Thanks Waterguy - you are the sweetest! Actually, last time we evacuated to Cat's. Called her at 5am and asked if we could crash for a few hours not knowing where we were going, little did she know when she told us we were more than welcome, that we'd stay for a month! She ROCKS!
Liamsaunt - that is a GORGEOUS photo - should be published in a book!!!!

That is so sweet! Nothintolose evacuated here for Katrina and we had Rita hit on the other side of us while she was still here! She slept in the bathroom on the floor with her dog!
I realized a while later that the room she stayed in shared a wall with the chimney. Even in a little rain storm it sounded like tha house was going to blow down!
When I realized it I had to laugh to think of how scared she must have been with hurriane winds!
Nothingtolose, I love you!
