after long travel day.. what do you do for dinner?

Do you just want to stay at the villa? Do you head back to town for dinner?

We're staying on Gift Hill... so not far from Cruz Bay, but my parents who are travelling with us on this trip (in their 70's) will likely be quite tired after the trip ... a 5:30am flight will do that!

I just wanted ideas. I'm thinking of having provisions delivered prior to arrival to eliminate one stop but would like any ideas you may have!

Thanks!

Traveling with elderly parents (not that 70 is elderly :) ) I would call ahead for pizza or Candies BBQ (as candies is on the way) and just relax at the villa so everyone can just breathe a sigh of relief - that is unless your 5:30 flight arrives at noon then I would probably take everyone to the villa but probably still go back to get takeout

Hi Pia,
If you call ahead for pizza, do you stop and pick up or do they deliver or when you said, "call ahead" is it because you stop and pick up? That sounds like a very good idea!

I second take out BBQ. My elderly father would put away a big serving of BBQ, rice & peas and cole slaw after a long travel day.

Cheers, RickG

Ronnie's Pizza and Mo' delivers!! I second the villa provisioning! I always get breakfast items, lunch items and munchies so we have something when we first get there, we relax a little then head back to town later and then the following morning villa gravity usually sets in after a long travel day and we have breakfast, lunches and hang by the pool the first day!!! I use www.blueskymanagement.net

Hi,
Lately, I make Slopoy joe's once we are at the villa.
Not a fancy meal, but take only a few minute to pick up the fixings & make it.

We have developed a routine that works for us. We have almost always arrived on the 2 pm ferry and stay on the south shore. So...

1. walk to Conrad Suttons to get our jeep. After the first trip, I have usually just arranged to meet our villa greeter at the Marketplace. After 3 pm.

2. Go to villa and check it out and drop our bags.

3. Back to starfish for food and beverages. Mostly lunch stuff as we eat dinner out more than not.

4. Relax at villa for a bit, maybe a dip in the pool but ALWAYS back to town for dinner and drinks at Beach Bar or High Tide taking in the sunset and fully adjusting to island time.

We typically pick up a rotisserie chicken and some some premade salads at Starfish while we're grocery shopping

Yo. To make this easy I would first ask them what they would like to eat and if the answer is anything then have everyone take a frozen strip steak in their luggage and a baking potato. Pick a bottle of wine at the airport and you are done for the night, no stopping. Just a thought. The steak will be fine and probably still a little frozen in the middle. God bless....Bill

After shopping at Starfish we run upstairs and pick up food from Sam & Jacks for dinner back at the villa. Some choose sandwiches and others choose the pre-made dinners. It's all yummy.

Love bills idea. We aren't cooler people but I could do a steak in my suitcase I think. Easy breezy

I pretty much agree with Toes - we stop at Woodys, have a few adult beverages and a bite to eat. Sometimes we are even lucky enough to be on-island before RAWHIDE plays 8)

Our usual practice when we took the people ferry (now we rent a vehicle on STT from Amalie), our group would get their suitcases and drag them up to Woodys - first stop on the island. . . . .it was tradition. The only thing that has changed now is we stop/park, then to Woody's for a few, then on to our villa.

We always arrive 6 - 9pm. We get the jeep, stop at Woody's then head to Starfish for the makings of breakfast and lunch for the next day.
