Last minute trip

As a Christmas gift to ourselves we are thinking about making a trip to the island in February either 2/8 -2/15 or 2/22 -3/1. We are looking for a small affordable place for 2 people preferably no more than $2k. We aren't picky about location. We would prefer A/C in the bedroom but if it is known to have good breezes we could live without. A pool would be nice but not a necessity. I know I have seen previous posts on the same subject but I haven't had a lot of luck searching for them. Any suggestions?

The lovely people who own Pink Papaya have a rental apartment:

And I'm drawing a blank right now but one of the chefs on STJ now has a small rental...I've seen the website and can't think of it.

I have rented Starlit Escape in Coral Bay twice the last week of feb. No need for ac. It has a pool and is under $2000. The road isn't paved but only 1 mile in. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. They all look promising. Starlit Escape really looks lovely but it is booked for the weeks we were looking at but at this point we are somewhat flexible so I will keep it in the running. XIsland..I had actually found that VRBO listing. I am assuming you have stayed there. The pictures do not show the kitchenette. Would you say that it is probably ok for breakfasts and lunches but we would have to plan on dinners out?

I have stayed there and it is owned by a forumite!
When we stayed there was a very small kitchenette, the new one is much more equipped from what I have been told and we had bagels and fruit most mornings with our coffee and had a small fridge to keep our lunch foods as well.
send a message to the owner! The pro pictures are soon come and she will likely be able to share more info with you

Ja, what XIslandGirl said. In the past, Cruz Views has been our favorite cheap high-season spot.

Woo Hoo!!! We are booked in the Sugar Cane Suite for Febraury 1-8. This is the first time traveling in high season but I managed to get "decent" fares out of JFK. This will also be the first time that we will vacation on St John twice in the same year. I am sooooo excited. Going to be doing some diving this trip which is something we have nevered experienced in the Virgin Islands. We were just certified in May. I was trying to add a second ticker to my signature but it doesn't seem to be happy with the new one for some reason. Oh well, I know when we are traveling and that is the important part!
Thanks to all for your input. Is it February yet?

Did you get pictures of the kitchenette?

Yes, I did get pictures of the kitchenette. It is actually being renovated right now. It is small but workable especially because there is a private grill on the patio for this unit. It will be adequate for the 2 of us and it will give us an excuse to eat dinner out a few times

. The owner was very responsive and answered all our questions. I will report back after our trip.

Kiddle bay is a great location for a shore dives. Rent your tank and gear, if you needed it from Low Key and head on out

Creolla is available both weeks:

We stayed there in 2009 and loved it. Rustic, but totally private, great view, central location, great hot tub. No AC, but on the top of a mountain so it doesn't need it.
Slice of Life is avail the last week of Feb:
http://www.vrbo.com/98477.
Haven't stayed there, but it looks similar to Creolla - simple cottage on a mountain.
Lameshur Cottage is available feb 15-22.

No AC might be a problem at lower altitude, but looks charming. Close to Salt Pond Bay.
Or look at the full calendar for Carefree Getaways to easily spot openings:

psufan, My friend and I (1st time newbie) will be staying in the Sugar Cane suite as well January 20-27th. The owner is a wonderful person and the suite looks like it will suit us just fine, cannot beat the view either
