The On St. John guys posted this picture and it makes me so happy:

The post also mentioned those horrendous chairs they used to have...does anybody else remember those awful things? The basket weave ones were painful to sit in and I'd always try to get one of the few vinyl ones.

Here's another new one from Cafe Roma's FB page...no more pillows hanging from the ceiling (though those have been gone for awhile):

Good for them! From the stories we've seen about fund raisers and donations, it seems like the re-build was difficult due a problem with or lack of insurance. The vast majority of businesses with inadequate insurance do wind up going out of business after a substantial loss.

St. John Source from 5/30:
“Café Roma survived Hurricane Hugo and Hurricane Marilyn but the fire damaged the restaurant more than both of those natural disasters combined. The fire destroyed the restaurant’s ceiling, roof and most of its interior. Hiebert said he's rebuilding the roof and installing new plumbing. His landlord's insurance will pay for the roof, plumbing and new wiring. But Hiebert's fire insurance is not covering any of the lost equipment, furniture, nor any of the contents inside the restaurant. Those costs will be paid out-of-pocket.”

Jeez. What kind of “fire insurance” for a business with a commercial cooking exposure doesn't cover contents and/or business interruption?

Maybe time for a new insurance agent…

My wife and I will be there January 20-22. We can't wait to get a Rajun Cajun one night and a pizza the next. If you do the math it's pretty easy to see it's our favorite restaurant on the island. I hope the same bartender is still there. Nice guy. but I can remember his name off hand.
