Day 3-Trunk Bay

After a good night of sleeping I was up at 6am ready to get out and about. Had to peak out the door to see what the weather was doing. Since had rained a ton the week before we'd been extremely worried about the rain. Dad was already up and in a lounge chair reading his book. I went back in and hubby was up so we started getting ready for the day and then went outside where mom and dad both were to try and decide where to go first. We decided on Trunk Bay if it didn't look busy. This was the only beach my immediate family had been to before. We got the other two up, packed the cooler, loaded the cars and decided to grab breakfast on the way to the beach. I had seen Baked in the Sun the night before when we ran into Starfish so I thought we should head there. Mom and dad went separately and were supposed to be following us, but I lost them before we hit town. Oops!! We'd told them where we were going, but I knew mom didn't know where that was yet and figured dad might not be paying attention. We ordered our food and still no parents. Of course my cell phone was flashing no battery, but I said a quick prayer and dialed anyway. It lasted and they finally made it to us. I ordered a bagel with veggie cream cheese and it was so tasty and huge that I couldn't eat the whole thing. The cream cheese had real chunks of veggies in it which was a nice surprise. The bacon, egg and cheese bagels became a tradition with the guys on this trip. Everyone grabbed their food and we were off. It was sooo easy to find the beach and we were thrilled. The parking lot was practically empty and no taxis in sight. Good sign! We walked past the showers and toward the beach and I couldn't wait for my husband and bro's girlfriend to get their first glimpse. Stepped through the trees and there was that gorgeous teal water and white beach laying before us. I truly think they were speechless for a moment. Hardly anyone around, we staked out a place a little down the beach, lathered up and headed for the water. Nothing like walking into God's own swimming pool as my husband began calling it! We marveled at the clear water and just let everything soak in. At some point the guys went over to snorkel, but I couldn't make myself put forth the energy. We just floated and sat in the sun, floated and sat in the sun. After awhile we began watching clouds build. Uh, oh, I think a shower is coming! We quickly grabbed all our dry stuff and shoved it under a neat sheet. Secured the neat sheet with the cooler and chairs and headed back into the water. May as well be in the water if you are going to get wet! Pretty much anyone that was there was in the water. It poured pretty hard for maybe 10 minutes and began tapering off. The sun came back out and it was time for a drink. We headed to the snack bar and ordered strawberry daquiris and pina coladas. Yum! Sipped our drinks and continued to relax. I think this point in time is when I realized that this is probably the absolute most relaxed I have ever seen my entire family. It was an awesome thing! Too soon, we were getting pretty crispy even though we were doused in sunscreen to the max. We decided to head back to the villa to get cleaned up. Took a quick dip in the pool and then it was shower time. I have to say it was so nice leaving most of the make up and hair process off my getting ready time this trip. It just wasn't necessary and we all learned that quickly!! Back into town for Happy Hour at Woody's. Took a table on the street and drinks began to flow. The pain killers were tasty! As we sat there we realized we needed candles to keep the bugs away so J and I walked down to St. John Spice and bought a couple. 15.00/per very large candle and it was worth every penny. Back to Woody's and some snacks had arrived. The men consumed huge amounts of beer and we were all feeling pretty good. We decided to then shop some down at Mongoose. It was at this time that I realized too many drinks for me and I had to sit out on the shopping or be sick. I sat out!! Mom and Dad headed back to the villa and the others shopped while I sat and people watched.

All shopping done we decided to stop and grab bbq to take back and have later that night at the villa. We decided to try Candi's and were very pleased. We grabbed five orders for six people and we could easily have had four orders and had plenty. The steak and chicken was very good. We didn't really care for the ribs, but the slaw, potato salad and rice were so good. Each meal came with two sides. The total for five meals was 56 dollars. A pretty cheap meal we though! We never tried Joes and will hopefully do so next time. It was just chillin at the villa time that evening and off to bed early. Tomorrow... diving with Colette!

Ahhhhhh, Nic....you guys get it! If you are from Kansas City (Nic in KC was my clue) I know it's hard to find the kind of relaxation in the mid west that you find on St. John!

Keep it up, love to read your reports!

Sea-Nile-We went on a Monday. We arrived around 9:30 I think and truly there weren't many people for the entire afternoon. I think we left around 2:00pm. There were a couple of taxis around when we left, but nothing like the zoo I'll report on later in the week which was a Saturday!

And yes, Bert, we are from Kansas City! My husband constantly asks why our families decided to settle in the middle of the country with no mountains, no oceans close by.

Good times! My daughter's fave thing to do is blow her float up 1/2-3/4 of the way and then just glue herself to it in the water for the entire beach stay. I have to actually check to see if she is breathing she is so comatose.

God's bathtub is the way I always describe the water in St john! I think it is the only way people can really understand how clear it is!

Sounds like another perfect day in paradise. :D

Trunk beach is amazing, isn't it? When it is not overcrowded, it is my fave.

I am interested in hearing more about Candie's BBQ. Steak? What kind of steak? The ribs were not good, why not?
