Hi all - so excited. Leaving for JFK on Thursday and early flight Friday morning. Staying on STT for one night at Best Western Emerald Beach then over to STJ for 9 days. Our first beach day will be Sunday so what is a good first beach day where not alot of crowds? Can't wait to get there and snorkel with our family among other things.

Sunday is a tough one for no crowds as its "locals" day - Maho locals in their 40's/50's Hawksnest families, Cinnamon locals in their 20's for beach volleyball, Francis sometimes a locals day. Honeymoon might be good if you don't mind the walk

I guess we will just suffer with some crowds

Kidding of course just didn't want to go to a beach where it was really crowded. I know we went to Maho on our last visit and it really was not crowded so maybe will try that again or try a new beach. Gibney is on my list this year along with some other new beaches. Can't wait!!!!!

Just pick a beach and get there before 9:30am and you will have it mostly to yourself. By noon it seems that pretty much every sandy beach is crowded these days, even in low season. Francis Bay used to be way off the beaten track, but it's apparently been "discovered." Now that Honeymoon has rentals and a concession stand, it has a vibe more like Cinnamon Bay, definitely not a secluded little hideaway.

We went to Gibney on a Sunday this past trip. While there was a local gathering in the pavillion (wedding reception), the far left side was nearly empty. We had been on the island a week already but it was the first beach for our newbie friends that had arrived the night before. They loved it as their first beach for their first time visit to St John.
