A Trip of Firsts June 1 - June 15 Part 3

At the midpoint of our 2 week trip our good friends joined us. They came over on the 8:00PM ferry. While we went into town to pick them up our kids worked on dinner. Luckily the fishing trip the guys went on earlier was very fruitful and we enjoyed a scrumptious fresh mahi mahi dinner after they arrived. It was fun to see their reactions to everything they experienced when they got here. We tend to forget what it is like to be a newbie. We just loved introducing them to our favorite place. Unfortunately by the time they arrived it was dark so they didn't get the full impact of this view from Coconuts

But they got to enjoy it in the morning as we took our kids to the ferry to head home. So now we transitioned into a very different vacation. It started with the North Shore Drive tour so they could see the overlooks, at least as far as our first beach. Guess where?

After enjoying some beach chilling we headed back into town to stop at Low Key so they could rent snorkel gear for the remainder of the vacation. Of course we also had to have some libations to slake the wicked thirst we had from our strenuous beach day! They are no longer Beach Bar newbies.

Highlights from our 2nd week with our friends:

1. A FIRST : A day sail on Kekoa. We have always shied away from the big charter boats. Boy, have we been missing out! We had an absolutely delightful day. Our snorkel stop was at Mary's Point. That was another FIRST. The snorkel there was really good. Got to swim with some large tarpons. I don't have any photos to post of them unfortunately. After snorkeling we cleared customs in Sopers Hole and then went to White Bay. Yes, we enjoyed the pleasures of White Bay once again. Another FIRST- we had lunch at One Love. Unfortunately they were out of lobster so no lobster quesadilla but the jerk chicken quesadillas were a very excellent substitute.

An added bonus...we also got to meet fellow forum members "scotties" who were also sailing on Kekoa.

2. A FIRST : a dinghy day! Again, we have really been missing out by not doing this on previous trips. We traveled out to Waterlemon and tied up to a mooring ball. This is another FIRST. Can you believe that in 4 previous trips we never have snorkeled here? I understand all of the accolades now!

Well hello there!

I don't think we stopped laughing the entire day after we watched each other try to get into the moored dinghy! After Waterlemon we stopped at Cinnamon for lunch and then introduced our friends to Salomon.

3. Another FIRST: a morning touring Annaburg ruins. In all of our trips we have never taken the time to stop in here. I am glad we did. It was very interesting. It kind of puts everything in a different perspective.

4. Getting to spend some time with Eagleray Lover. Leslie, you are a delight.

5. Watching our friends totally unwind. We got to see them settle into that relaxed state that you experience when you allow yourself to totally absorb the beauty and serenity of St John. They got it!

6. A week of true beach liming!

Coming up next....just some general observations and a few stories that illustrate why we love St John so much.

Lots of firsts for you!!
A grand tour for the new guests. They must have fallen in love with the island!!
Plus, the views from Coconuts must have made every dinner at the house amazing. It's quite a view from there! We met Kevin and Danielle this past January while on the island with friends and I'm thankful to be staying at Coconuts this December with my daughter, soon to be son-in-law and my parents. 3 generations.... and I'm the only one who has stayed on the island. I will have MANY firsts in December! I can't wait to see the faces on my family when we arrive at Coconuts just in time for a sunset!

I think it is Gibney/Oppenheimer....does anyone know the villa on the hill in the background?

Awesome firsts, Coconuts has a great view, dinghy, waterlemon, etc... very cool!

Thanks for the report, sounds like it was a fabulous trip. I was wondering how the new AC in the loft bedroom worked. Hubby and I honeymooned at Coconuts and want to return with friends .

thanks!

Our son stayed in the loft for the whole week and my daughter and her fiancé sleep there their last night so that our friends could take the guest bedroom. No one said anything about being uncomfortable so I am assuming it worked just fine.
