How much of the island would you say is not accessible by car?

It would depend on how much of a risk taker you are.

I would not go to the east end in a car. I would not go to Lameshur in a car. Most unpaved roads would be hard on a car. Personally, I can't imagine having a car on the island. I see many every day, but I am glad I have the Jeep.
Centerline from Cruz to Coral Bay would be fine. Coral Bay to salt pond would be ok. There are parts of north shore I would not want to be in a car-between trunk and cinnamon and Maho to centerline.
Just my opinion which according to my wife -means nothing!

Trust me, switchbacks are not good in a car, can be quite scary, been there, done that
