St John taxi review

Hi all. Just returned from a great trip on STJ best ever actually! I wanted to drop a taxi driver recommendation for anyone that may be looking for someone good to use. We did not want to drive while we were there. We were in a villa in Great CB area and I was concerned about taxi availability from the house. We found there were plenty of taxi drivers that wanted to give us their # so they we would use them exclusively. One in particular was really great and we used him for every trip to the beach or town. He gave us his card and we gave him a call. By the time we had our stuff packed up on the beach or at home, he was either already waiting for us or was coming down our road! He picked us up right in front of the house. It was $5 to town, $7 trunk, $9 cinnamon. When we needed to go to the store for restocking some items he brought us there and waited with no additional charge. One day we ran out of ice and forgot to get some before getting to the beach. He over heard us talking and offered to go into town and get ice for us, no charge. A few minutes later he was calling our cell and there was our ice and a 6 pack of cold beer!! I tipped him very well that day! Life saver! Or..day saver anyway lol. We did not lift a bag in or out of the taxi. There was always a hand out for help getting in or out of the truck. He even called us a couple hours after we left the island to see if we made it to the airport safely. I understand he is opening a car rental company soon in Cruz Bay as well so for you all that want to rent a car while you're there give him a call. Need a taxi? Give him a call. Very nice guy. His name is Mitchell Samuel but he goes by Chico. 340-690-6507 Pleasantly surprised. Hope this helps :)

I am curious what the final cost was after a week? While there is the convenience factor, I wonder about the cost and if it is cheaper than renting a jeep.

Well we were 8 girls all paying for ourselves. We would have needed 2 cars or one of the taxi type rentals with fuel and ins. I figured about $975 or so about $121 pp. I think I spent $135 on taxi fares incl. arrival with bags and departure. A very small price to pay for piece of mind and not being designated driver is indeed priceless! Now we were off island every other day on power boat trips I booked so that should be taken into account as well. We were there a total of 8 nights / 9 days. Not long enough!

I saw mention somewhere about what a sweet, friendly guy Chico is, and have made a mental note. Someone even said he called to check up on her ill mother (maybe this was on TA).
 Hey........maybe Chico could man our St. John hotline???

Good to know about Chico. We sometimes would like a cab ride in to town at night.

Thanks so much for posting! We 2 sons that aren't close to 25 yet so having a taxi driver they can use will be so helpful if they want to go down without us ( though them staying in my house with their friends and without parents is another issue altogether! ).

I thought I read somewhere (OnSTJ.com??) about a woman opening a new car rental place. But I can't seem to find that anywhere. Maybe I'm dreaming  Was wondering if this was all the same family or if there might be 2 new car rental places coming?

I believe the are more than 1 opening now we have "permission" for 600 more rental cars (I think 600 not 100% sure on that number as it has been a while since it was approved)
