GO Phone

Is there a place at the airport or on St. John that we can purchase a GO Phone when we arrive? My fiancee was told by Best Buy that it would be cheaper to purchase one when we get down there rather than here in MN. I'm guessing there isn't a Best Buy on St. John.
We aren't planning to go shopping on St. Thomas, but if we have to, then we'll make it work.

The guy at Best Buy is wrong.
Go to Walmart and get one before you go. Much cheaper and easier to find. I am fairly sure that they don't sell them in the Airport and you would likely have to go to Kmart on STT to get one.

Thanks! Does the GO Phone have roaming charges on St. John? That was one reason the Best Buy guy recommended getting it when we arrive.

As long as you get an ATT phone, you should not have roaming charges on STJ.

We own a go phone and have brought it to St John the past two years- it works fine on island- no roaming charges but from earlier discussions I guess this is possible if you are near the BVI's but if you call AT&T they will reverse them for you later. We have never called back to the U. S. There is an AT&T store in the marketplace. My daughter's boyfriend bought a phone there in Feb (his phone got wet and died) but it wasn't a go phone. I'm sure islandgirl is right- I can't think of anything that is cheaper on St John but if you have problems with the phone you can goto the AT7T place.

Thank you for the replies! I've finally convinced my fiancee to just go get the GO Phone. No matter what the Best Buy salesman says.

I am guessing that the guy at Best Buy has never been to STJ and likely has no idea that it is a US territory.
I had someone at AT&T tell me that the roaming charges on my phone that said I was in Jamaica had to be correct since St John was so close to Jamaica!

The same thing happened to me last year, using Verizon. I had to convince Verizon that Jamaica wasn't remotely close to STJ. In hindsight, I likely picked up a tower in Tortola that is licensed by a company also doing business in Jamaica. Verizon eventually voided the charges.

Will the GO phone have reception up on Calabash Boom? I think we're going to need to get one for November.
