When does St. John Carnival start and end? I know it is sometime late June but we have
never been there at that time. We will be there from June 15-June 29.

On St. John, it's called "Festival", which starts June 1st, and ends on the 4th of July. "Festival Village" transforms the parking lot behind Uncle Joe's Barbecue, with a perimeter of improvised food kiosks and a stage for musical acts, but it opens the day before you leave. It's a blast, but the pace really picks up in the last week. Here's the schedule for 2013:

We have been on St. John once during Festival; it was a lot of fun, with great food and music. We were watching the fireworks on the 4th of July from a neighbor's balcony on Gifft Hill, when the captain of a St. Thomas to St. Croix ferry may have had a bit too much Festival spirit, and ran the ferry well up onto Great St. James. No one was seriously injured. One of our hosts was with St. John Rescue, getting a call and rushing off to help. We left a few days later on the Charlotte Amalie ferry, and got a first hand look at the very grounded ferry. I got a few shots, but this news photo is better:

All the best,

Just what I needed. Thanks so much for the schedule. I remember you posting those pictures after it happened. Wish we could be there for the fireworks. I am sure it is amazing. Could not remember
if it was festival or carnival. I only remember hearing Captain John talk about the experience and all the things that were going on.
Thanks again. This is so helpful.
