Do Verizon cell phones work on St John? I know that our ATT phones worked last year but some of my family members have Verizon. Thanks.

Yes they work but are charged international rates for voice but local rates for texting

They don't charge international rates if you are just calling on St John, do they? We are mainly interested in having them work for an emergency or calling restaurants etc.

Coverage is pretty spotty with Verizon. We were there last month and did not have a problem making calls or texting when we were near Cruz Bay. We had very little service while in Coral Bay or over at Maho. I have an iphone and also had trouble attempting to connect to the internet even when in Cruz Bay.

I believe they charge $1.99 a minute for calls.

Thanks- we will be staying at Hart Bay- I can't remember if i used my cell phone from the house last year- the ATT phone did work well at Francis Bay though. Usually the family is together so hopefully someone will have a phone that works if the need arises.

We have stayed in Great Cruz Bay and in Rendevous Bay and didn't have a problem with connection when we used our phones. We didn't use them much cause we were on vacation
Forgot to mention that we have verizon also.

Thanks- since Hart bay is between Great Cruz Bay and Rendevous they should probably work.

Be careful, some of the island will pick up BVI towers.

Just returned and was unable to use my I Phone 4 S with Verizon Service from anywhere on island, even in Cruz Bay as we stayed at Lavender Hill. ironically, when we were up in Catherineberg I got a message that we were roaming on BVI service. I would not depend on Verizon service to communicate.

It can get expensive. We used ours on our last trip, staying high on reef bay, and ended up with a $200 addt phone bill. Prior trip when we stayed in Cruz Bay it was only an extrad. $60 which didn't seem so bad.

Next trip we are staying on the East End. The phones will be turned OFF! Who needs them anyways when you are in paradise!
