Starting to put together our grocery lists and meal plans (yes I am a compulsive over planner and I love it).

Looking for suggestions on buying local seafood. I've heard in threads before about fisherman selling by the dock, or in Coral Bay. Where are the best places to look for these people, best items to buy and best times to find them? Anything I should stay away from?
I hear you can't get lobster anymore?

I have not seen the cooler guys selling lobster for a couple of years, but it could have been my timing.

My only advice is to be careful about which fish you select to purchase. You want to choose the open water fish, such as wahoo, tuna etc. and avoid the reef fish such as triggerfish, barracuda etc. Reef fish are much more likely to be infected with the ciguatera toxin, and you don't want to get ciguatera!

The Fish Trap restaurant operates a small seafood market offering a mix of local and imported fishes. It's a little more than just buying from the guys with the coolers, but the quality is good. Or you could check in front of the Our Love market in the mid afternoon for the guys coming back from the day charters with fish to sell.
