Strictness of no-children-under-8 policy?

Hi all! Looking at villas for an upcoming trip and am interested in one or two that have the "No children under 8" policy. I understand the reason for having the policy, but I was wondering if anyone has ever experienced flexibility on this? The child in question is an unusually cautious 6-year-old girl...

It seems like we encountered this once but the agent was fine with it since we had 5 adults supervising the one child. It's worth asking.

We have had the under 8 yo restriction waived many times and were declined once. Another time, the agent refused to ask.

Similar to what Jumbie girl mentioned, I always made it clear that we had grandparents, aunts and uncles along and there was no way any child of mine would be left unsupervised.

I always offered to sign a waiver and provide an extra security deposit. (No one ever took me up on the extra security deposit)

I don't know if this holds true across the board but the larger, nicer houses were the "no problem, we will wave it" and the only one that declined was a smaller house. And the house were the agent would not ask was also a smaller/more modest place.

We've signed a waiver.

I just had a villa rep tell me that wasn't an option with a certain villa I liked into. But a couple others said I could, so I think it just depends on the villa, owners and management. Wouldn't hurt to ask.

Most of the villas that haev this policy is because of the property having a pool. They do not have the same safety regulations on island as they do on the mainland. Specifically, most pools do not have fences. Therefore, little ones can easily wander out of the house and fall into the pool. Mine is 5 and I still am worried that she will wander out in the middle of the night and fall into the pool, but then again I am a paranoid mom!

My best advice would to be to call the villa owner and ask why they have that provision. It might be because of a pool or maybe because they have expensive furnishings. I would think there could be a way that the rental agreement could be modified to have the renters sign off on responsibility.
