My husband would like to go deep sea fishing, however, I cannot afford to send him alone for $600! Does anyone have any suggestions for contacting a boat owner with the possibility of join others trying to book a trip? Or would anyone want form a group to go fishing March 15-23rd?!

haha he has done that.. He has been from St Thomas a few years ago, caught several mahi mahi and loved it.. Wants to go again! Me - not so much. I have never gotten sea sick, except this time my tummy was not so happy with me. I think it may have been a combo of the previous nights activities and rough seas.

I don't know if this would help, but we went deep sea fishing on the Double Header last June. They do split Charters They have an excellent reputation. They go out of Sapphire Marina.
He could take the ferry ove and take a quick cab ride over to Sapphire.
If you just keep in contact with them via phone, I'm sure they could fit him in.

Curious on the cost of this when Double Header was able to get you on a split charter. We have one in our group who would also like to, but the cost is scaring him away.

It was $150.00 for a 1/2 day for each of us. It turned into a longer trip because husband had a huge shark on the line and the captain was nice enough to wait until he brought it up. Also, consider a tip for the Captain too. It was fun.

Haven't gone out on Double Header, but we've watched them come in and out of Sapphire marina and have bought filets from them at the dock. They are nice guys and their customers always seem like they've really enjoyed the day.

Absolutely recommend the Double Header guys. Have fished with them more times than I can count and ALWAYS catch fish. The owner of the company, Jonathan, is probably the best fisherman I've ever been around. Great guy to boot! If you're lucky you'll get him to be your captain. Although all of his captains are great guys and good fishermen.

Where did he find this huge shark??? I thought there weren't any big sharks around the VI's...

Plenty of big sharks and other fish out at the fishing grounds. North or South drops.

We went out of STT and headed North. Took awhile to get out there. I caught a remora which I thought was pretty cool. This was a reef shark and it took quite awhile to get it up so we could see it, but husband had a ball.

FYI for anyone who might be also looking to join a charter. I received a reply from Double Header with the following details.
"
We have numerous calls from people that want to fish but do not want to charter a whole boat for themselves.
Our solution is to run a party mix trip. If we get a minimum of four people, the trip happens. We will take a maximum of six. The cost is $150 per head.
Each week, we will start a list for a specified day and time. When the fourth person signs up, the boat goes on that date and time.
If we have more inquiries, we will start another party mix trip. We are willing to run several trips a week as long as we have a minimum of four for each trip.
Call 340-777-7317 to sign up your guest."
Hope someone can find this useful.
