Mosquito Fogging

I read online that mosquito fogging will take place today.. Does anybody know if that plan is still scheduled to take place? Having contracted Dengue Fever from a prior visit to St. John, I would be curious to learn more about the efforts of trying to keep the disease from spreading.

I have heard of at least one current case of Dengue on St John.
Usually, the USVI Department of Health offers up to date information. According to the website, spraying is to be carried out tonight in Coral Bay and Cruz Bay.

Seabee...
Just wondered if you would share your experience on how your symptoms started out...the nature of the illness and how long it lasted. Also, when did you seek medical care. Thanks..just want to know what to watch for~

Hi stjchica-
First of all, I noticed a "fly" of some sort in our closet of our master bedroom in the villa we were staying at. Being a nature lover, I thought that I would let the guy out during our trip to the beach. I didn't remember seeing it again, however, every morning I would wake up with bites all up and down my legs and body. I am a magnet for anything that bites, so I assumed I was getting chewed up by sand fleas or bugs during our evening hot tub adventures. The plane ride was terrible as my welts were itchy and sore. I returned home and felt ok but less than a week later I went in to the doctors office to have them look at my bites and address my severe body aches in my joints and behind my eyes. After two visits to the doctors, they told me to watch for a fever. Well along with my fever, I developed a rash all over. I went to the ER and was hospitalized until they could identify what I had. After a night in the hospital, and a zillion blood tests, the Center for Disease Control told me they suspected I had Dengue Fever. A week later the tests came back positive. When I travel to the island I now wear Deet 24/7 and spray the rooms too. Ugg! Let me know if I can answer any more questions!

Thanks for the information. I have now decided to take repellent with DEET on our trip next month.

while i am not generally a big proponent of fogging...in this case it probably makes sense--
Dengue is endemic to the area and has been for a while. it cycles thru 'low' years' and 'high years' but it has been around a while ...but if you are there , it probably pays to take precautions -- especially if you suspect you have been infected before- as subsequent infections raise your risk for contracting much more serious disease.

Didn't notice any fogging in Cruz Bay last night . . . was supposed to happen between 6 and 9PM.

Maybe tonight?
