'skeeters in STJ

Word on the street is that 'dem skeeters are out big time on STJ. Don't know about STT. All I know is that if you are planning to come down to the islands soon, either bring lots of DEET or plan to stay indoors. Or better yet, if you are coming to the islands soon, bring bug spray with more than 4% deet (the kid version of bug spray) and make a killing on island selling it roadside.

Thanks so much for that advice. And, may ask, upon what do you base your opinion? Is it you spent all day at Maho underwater? Is it that you have spent everyday at the villa underwater? Is it that you have foresaken your normal yummy perfume for Off?
All I know, is that I am glad that that those bloodsuckers love you...it's like the old story of two guys in the woods (no, Jorge, not that story)...I don't need to out run the bear, all I have to do is out run you.

Actually, my love, it was the lack of sun and wind at Maho earlier this morning that seemed to bring out those 'skeeters. Thank you for the beverages while we did the whole "geek" thing with our floaties.
I love you Pete, I am having a great vacation with you. STJ is the best.

You guys are World Class Geeks.
What's for dinner?
Mosquito Goulash?
Dirty Rice with Mosquitos?
Grilled Mosquitos with Curz Bay Grill Rub?
I'm sorry the mosquitoes are so bad, but I'm glad you're enjoying your vacation nonetheless. A lot of couples would crumble under the stress of mosquito infestation, but not you guys.
A guy called me from Coral Bay yesterday AM before we even opened and asked a zillion questions about mosquito repellents, bug patches, after-mosquito-bite treatments.....I felt like The Clinic. He came in later and bought one of everything bug-related we had in stock. He said "My wife won't leave the house and I'm sick of doing everything by myself." I really felt bad for the guy.
Today I saw him heading up the stairs with his wife! I asked how it was going and she wasn't the picture of total Vacation Happiness, but hey, they were out of the house. Together.
Pray for a good stiff breeze, that will help a lot. I've truly never seen anything like this, mosquito-wise.
How's the sunburn?

Last time we were down there, we were talking to a local that told us the mosquitos were so bad after a hurricane that many people (including him) got Dengue Fever...makes me nervous for all of you guys hearing about this mosquito infestation...kinda like worrying about West Nile Virus all summer long here.
Good luck to you guys keeping them away.

Maybe they should just roll around in calamine lotion together.

Ruth, you don't know the half of it. Yesterday we took the pool floats to Maho and, well, floated. Now Marcia wants to take her snorkel mask and the float...so that she can float on her tummy, while looking in the water.
You read those posts about people who run and exercise on island (not that there's anything wrong with that), but that apparently is not us. Nope, my wife is trying to figure out a way to snorkel without snorkeling. She's a keeper.

All it needs is a drink holder.
There are a few models at

Edited to give credit to
LandLockedBeachLover for finding these rafts.

You could always tie one of these onto the raft and have you own personal bar...
