Has anyone ever browned butter for a recipe?

I wonder if I burnt it rather than browned it. The particulate matter is a coffee color. Is that too dark? It doesn't smell burnt, but I haven't done this before.
Thanks if you can help!

should be more carmelizey-- not black-- like coffee-- the true test is to taste it-- if it tastes burnt then start again-- usually i do this in sauce pan and as it heats just keep swirling the pan removing it from the heat so that it doesn't turn too fast....make sense? I am sure your butter is probably fine!

It is a fine line between brown and burned. Agree, taste it.

It was perfect. Not difficult - next time will be no big deal. Thanks for the fast answer, Lori! I didn't miss a beat in a long day of baking!
