SUP rental/lesson question

Anyone have any recommendations among the stand up paddle board rental places on STJ? We are looking for rentals and instruction. It looks like Waterbase in Cruz Bay, Arawak and others are pretty competitive relative to price. Anyone take lessons/rent from Karen Jarvis? I also read that Waterbase has inflatable boards that fold up for easy transport, which sounds cool for taking to some of the more remote beaches...anyone ever use those? Thanks in advance...

We were on island about 6 weeks ago and rented one from Arawak for $75 for the day. Neither I nor my buddy had ever been on one before so we were complete novices and just to be clear, we are a couple of late 50's guys, not your fit 20/30 somethings. The guy at Arawak gave us a quick verbal lesson with some tips, we strapped in on top of our jeep and off we went to Maho. We both had a couple of spills that entertained the others on the beach, but then we were up and going. Wasn't that bad. They did provide us with one of the larger boards which are better for beginners. It was a lot of fun and I'd do it again. Once you get your sea legs, you'll be heading across the water in no time.

Thanks for the info, TexasJumbie. I think we're going to check out the options once we're on island. I love the idea of getting a workout while having a blast on STJ!

I do remember looking into it at Cinnamon Bay. You can rent there, too. Renting costs were: 1/2 day - $60; full day $80.
