I was wondering how difficult the walk to Honeymoon Beach is from Caneel Bay Resort. My husband has two bad knees - had his ACL replaced twice in his right knee & once in the left knee. He doesn't take his knee braces with him when we go to St.John. I really want to go to Honeymoon beach and am trying to figure out if he could handle the walk.

The walk is quite flat and easy from Caneel. In fact if you are a guest there they might even take you there on a golf cart. We actually were there one time, not as guests but day visitors, and the guy with the cart offered us a ride as we were walking toward Honeymoon. It's a beautiful beach and worth the effort to get to.

hard to say what his limits are but if you take it slow, and there's no reason not to, it's not a bad walk. it is flat but if I recall if you are on property there might be a few steps. agree with Diana, ask them for a lift and I'm sure they would accommodate you. Enjoy!

Are you staying at Caneel? They have kayaks you can use. I don't know if they'd let you take them all the way to Honeymoon, but you could ask. I've seen people take them around Cottage Point so I don't think you have to stay on Caneel Beach with them. Mind you, I've never used one (too lazy!).

The walk is mostly flat - some up hill and some down hill areas....just take some water and stop to rest. It can get hot on the walk. If you have the engergy keep going over to Soloman. It is beautiful too.

We snorkeled over to Honeymoon from Caneels main beach. You might consider that as an option.

lovestj, I agree that Solomon is beautiful! However, I don't think that I would recommend the walk from Honeymoon to Solomon for someone with the knee problems that nola girl describes. It's not a hard walk, but it is hilly, and rocky (not big rocks, but still makes for uneven footing), and it can be slippery if there are leaves rotting on the rocks. Snorkeling over might be a better option for nola girl's husband if they want to see Solomon.

We aren't staying at Caneel Bay - rented a villa in Chocolat Hole. We are actually arriving on Friday May 25th and staying on STT the first night. My plan was to head over to STJ the next morning, pick up our the jeep at 10am and head to the beach until we can get into our villa after 3pm. Since we will have all of our luggage in the jeep I wanted to go some place with some sort of security or at least where it would be less likely to have our belongings stolen from the jeep.

My husband has trouble with climbing and with stairs. I am happy to know that the path is relatively flat. I don't want him to hurt himself on the first day we get there.

Is there a trail from Honeymoon to Solomon?

We met Canadian Ruth (theshopper3) on Honeymoon on Wednesday. Caneel was dropping folks off using golf carts.

It's an easy well graded road that is about 10 minutes of walking.

There were 4 or so big charter boats that pulled up and some very large family groups. It was worth the walk and quite pretty.

you could ask the management company if you could just put your luggage in the villa we have done this in the past.
Or you could drop them at connections or that new place to hold for you I think it is like 3.00 a bag for the day.

Another option is to rent a dinghy from Little Noah. You can drive the dinghy right up on the beach - no walking.

You can easily get to Honeymoon, Solomon and many other beaches all the way to Waterlemon.

I wouldnt rent a dingy unless there was no chop or surf in the water. You get thrown around trying to beach it and launching it from the beach.

waterguy's right. I'd first ask if you can drop your bags at the villa and if that doesn't work, I'd look into leaving them at Connections rather than leaving them in the Jeep while you walk to Honeymoon.

There are some steps from the parking lot down the hill to Caneel. I would NOT leave my luggage in the parking lot at Caneel.

I found the other place that will store luggage is the new place "Bring on the fun"
it is below the banana deck.

Thanks for the advice - I never thought about storing luggage somewhere. I will try the villa rental company first and if that doesn't work I will look into one of the other places you all have listed.

Neither my husband or I am comfortable renting a dinghy. Neither of us have any experience with boats and wouldn't want to take a boat or dinghy out where we aren't familiar with the boating area. Our luck would be that we would runover a snorkler.
