Airfare advice

Trying to decide when to buy my airline tickets for our April 2nd trip.

Last year we bought a month before and spent $560. I've been watching for about a month, and it's been hovering around $520. Now today it's at $492. I was hoping to wait for a fare sale, as I have to buy 6 tickets, but since we're going during spring break this year I'm a little concerned about availability.

Thoughts?

Spring break AND six tickets? I would buy at that price.

I bought - just in time. I was booking at Travelocity and checking the rate at AA.com. While I was booking the travelocity tickets, the AA site raised the fare, so I just made it!!

I have been thinking about posting this question too. We will be flying out of LIT which is not a hub so ticket prices are $200 higher here than in Memphis which is two hours away. In the last month prices have fluctuated between $633 and $683 pp. We are still 9 months out but my husband would rather buy them and get it over with (since the flight times are nearly perfect for us) instead of waiting until March or April and risk losing the flight times. It's so frustrating! I would leap at the $492 especially if it were my airport and not several hours away! So I guess my question is the same, buy now or wait for "possibly" better prices?

I have been using this site: http://matrix.itasoftware.com/ supposedly it is one of the best airfare trackers out there. It has been spot on with the price changes, I just can't get the prices to go down

I jump on anything below $500 for our trips.

Buy 1 ticket at a time to get best pricing. Be flexible on travel days. Wed is usually better day to buy tix.

Anything under $500 is good...Florida is almost that bad during that week. I always bring up Travelocity and look at flights and what seats are available to get a sense for how full they already are at this time. Flexibility is key if you can fly before or after Thur-Sun coming down and on the way back...that being said an extra day or two on the islands will eat up any savings in hotel, food, rental car costs.

Yeah, it would be about $200 more to fly out of our home airport (GRR), so we fly out of Detroit. It's an early morning flight, so we drive down the night before and stay in a hotel with a park and fly package. Typically can use points for the hotel room, so we just end up paying a parking charge and taking the shuttle. $200 may not be much when it's just the 2 of us, but with 6 people I'll take the $1200 break and spend a night in "the D"
