I am interested in buying a cladagh ring. I was told that there are good places to buy jewelry in the islands. Is it more affordable to buy gold or diamonds? St John vs. St. Thomas? Any place/store in particular that people have found to be an exceptional value in comparison to the US?

Tom, I haven't really done much price comparing, but I bought the most beautiful Tanzanite on STT, and they put it in my wedding ring while we went to lunch at Gladys'. I thought the price was really good (and I didn't even try to barter them down) and the work they did was superb. I can't remember the name of the store, but I'll see if I can find it for you if you're interested.

I have a feeling you might find better jewelry prices on STT because there are so many more jewelry stores and a lot more competition for business. That being said, there are some wonderful jewelry stores on STJ... Coral Bay Jewelers, Freebird, Caravan Gallery and R.I. Patton. You can't go wrong with any of them!
