well when i went to import my pictures several had corrupt images! I knew on island that the camera had started showing cannot display image on pictures we had previously been able to view.

most of my pictures from Tourist Trap are not importing...I haven't counted how many I have that are corrupt...maybe around 75.

have been on chat with Sony for over three hours...she finally remoted onto my pc and recovered a handful of pictures by opening with Paint and then saving as jpeg file.

She told me I had gotten a virus on my memory card. BUT the card had not been connected to a pc when it began losing pictures on island. the files were being corrupted and the camera nor card had been connected to any pc or laptop. The first level support person told me Sony knew of the problem and had corrected. I asked did i need an update to my camera and she said no.

sony Media Recovery services can recover for a charge of $60!!

Does anyone know of a way to recover the files I cannot open in Paint and then save in jpeg??? I really don't want to pay Sony.

guess I should have taken laptop and imported nightly!

and does anyone know how to prevent from happening in future???

I am sorry to say I do not know how to recover images from the memory card nor
do I know how you'd prevent the problem.

But, get the files onto your computer and keep trying to open them with other software.

Copy the files to your hard drive rather than "import" them off the camera.
Remember where you copy them to. Then try to place them in a
word document, and/or double click the file to open it, and/or try to
open them with another program besides paint. Wish I could be more help, but
these tricks have helped me recover images when my camera import software says
the files are "unreadable". If you do get them open in another program, save as .jpg
and import the saved .jpg to your photo album program.

Many web browsers allow you to open images. In the top menu bar or your
internet browser you should see an "open file" option in one of the drop down menus.
Open one of the problem photos with your internet browser and see if it displays.

from The Tourist Trap if you cannot recover yours. Just let me know. -cheryl

thanks Cheryl....it made the files something weird..some can be opened using Paint..which I used to recover.

after spending over four hours with Sony online...I am going to call their recovery services unit whenever I have time.

We stopped at Tourist Trap twice during our visit and I missed you both times! We had to come back the second time for another drink and that wonderful ice cream! We loved it...tried mango and lime.

I was awake and got up every morning to capture one.(then I went back to bed)

but it was either hazy or cloudy...the mornings it wasn't I finally realized that a hill or moutain was in my line of sight of where the sun rose! I finally got a picture of it coming up above that hill after it was way up in the sky. Guess if I could have stayed long enough the sun's position would have moved over a little....but not enough time!

if this happens to anyone else I have the solution...

I have it running now and I see some of the images that were missing (all our food and pics of birds at Tourist Trap) Still waiting on it to finish, and some images are showing up multiple times since we had tried to recover before...but I would much rather have the images multiple times than not at all!!!!

That's terrific. I would have never been able to figure that out.

I don't know what happened to some of the images..they would not import...but if you opened the camera on pc you could see all the "damaged" files...

that program just pulled them in without any problems..

going to do a few test runs with my camera before using for any big event again...I got it in May...so first big time use.. may buy another memory card...or the camera could have done it ...no one at Sony could tell me.
