First time on island for carnival... help!

So I'll be making my 9th consecutive trip in just over 2 weeks with my family (mom, dad, & grandma... I'm 27 and clearly always come along!) We usually come down after the 4th but will actually be on island for the first time for the 4th. I'm excited for the fireworks, but like I said, we've never been there for them! Any suggestions out there? Where to watch? What time to get there? Any general suggestions for that day? (We aren't planning on going to the parade and are going to avoid downtown).
Thanks for the help!

Hi,
What great timing. I was planning on asking the same questions. We will be there for the 4th for the first time and would like recommnendations on where to watch the fireworks from with a 7 year old as well as when to get situated for the event? Thanks!

We have been down the past two years over the 4th of July. It was busy in town, but not really overcrowded or crazy. We went in to town later in the day, so missed the bulk of the parade. We usually went in to the festival village and got some food from the vendors, listened to some music, and just walked around until early evening. Then we grabbed a spot on the beach near High Tide and waited for the fireworks.
It does get crowded on the beach for the fireworks, but it's nothing too bad. We had no trouble getting back out of town once the fireworks were over.
Hope this helps!

Walk down the beach past High tide you will find a wall to sit on to show the fireworks.
FYI on July 4 the water front places to eat are all prebooked for the fireworks

I like to watch them from the Beach Bar beach and will get to Cruz Bay about 3 or 4 hours before and hang out at various bars or the Festival. The Festival will be set up in Cruz Bay starting on June 29th and continue through July 4th. On July 4th J'ouvert starts at 4:00am. People dance through the streets behind trucks carrying steel drum bands. There is a parade later in the day around 11:00am, but will usually start later.

We will be there that week as well but luckily we are staying up on the hill over Cruz Bay so we will watch the fireworks from there. The daytime events are great fun, the whole town is buzzing but it has never been too crowded for us, just very festive. The parade is the highlight of the day for us, just grab your chairs or a blanket to sit on and grab a seat anywhere along the route. There are plenty of food and drink vendors in the Carnival Village with lots of local Caribbean foods. The parade costumes are just gorgeous and there is lots of dancing and music. Can't wait!
