Has anyone ever shipped a inflatable kyack down to St.John before?I know there is the issue w/ the paddles,so priority mail is out.

Try pm'ing Tracy in WI. She had inflatable kayaks on her last trip. She may be able to provide some information.

I can't answer on the shipping question but I wonder if you have actually used the inflatibles that you want to ship to StJ.
I have used one and was really disappointed. It is not something that I would want to use in any kind of surf. I have only tried it once on only a single kayak. I would hope that with their popularity that most are more stable and comfortable than the one I tried.
I am a yakker/canoeist so it was not like I was not used to a kayak.

I bought two inflatable Sevylor kayaks and put them in my checked luggage for our last trip - they were awesome and I just bought another one on Ebay for $120.

The paddle breaks down too so it fit in our bag. We used an large duffel bag as our checked luggage and were able to fit both of them along with the paddles and one air pump.

I ordered an inflatable kayak from Costco online, a Sea Eagle 370. It got delivered yesterday! It got decent reviews so we are willing to give it a try. We will be going to STJ for carnival and plan to check it in a large duffel. It is a 2 person model. From the size of the box, the paddles definitely break down.

Hoping for some smooth water over the summer.

We have Coleman inflatable kayaks but have never taken them to STJ - but we have kayaked along the shores of Lake Superior in the surf and they were great, we love them! Now you've got me thinking about bringing them to STJ when we go for Carnival this summer...hmmmm....

We arrive on 6/29. Maybe we can hook up and be a flotilla of inflatable kayaks.

My kayak and I will be on St. John for Carnival as well - a floatilla of inflatables sounds perfect!

darn..... my klepper could use a spin... and it would love to be int he waters of STJ.....

I say we have a skipper's meeting at the Beach Bar.

Last question,maybe for Tracy??What was the size of kayack that you took with you? 1 or 2 man,{or women}and what charges for taking such a item on a plane?

Hello - I used a Sevylor one person sit on top kayak - model K1 Quikpak. I just ordered another one from eBay for $120. We brought two down last time and placed them in a large duffel bag. We used that as our checked luggage and paid the typical $25 or so for it. Two of them were not over the weight limit.

We own a place at Grande Bay so left those two and will be bringing the third down in about a month. We really enjoyed them and found them pretty easy to deflate and carry in the included backpack. When done at the beach, we folded them and took a taxi back to town.

The last day of use I made sure to rinse them off and lay them on my neat sheet to deflate and re- fold. This kept as much sand off as possible.
