Ok, peeps, I'm making my "wish list" since time is upon us . Every year before we go on vacation everyone makes a "must do or my vacay will suck" list. This started at Disney World, but I digress....

Anywho, I'm interested in trying stand up paddleboarding. Has anyone done it successfully on their first attempt? Where can I try it? Also, how sore will an out of shape gal be the next day? Not that soreness is a problem, I just don't want to do it the day before our Jost sail if it's extremely hard!

And no, my vacay will not suck if I don't get to do this. It's mid-way through my list.

i would rent at maho bay camps at the beach at little mayo there (swim over from francis or big maho , or just park at the camp ground-- the bay is really pretty sheltered--
it's a small balancing act and if you have any wind you might get blown around a bit, but if you stay close to shore you shouldn't have an issue... at all. it's fun!

I so want to try this when we go, Although my husband thinks I'm cray. It really looks fun

You can rent and get lessons right in Cruz Bay from the new store recently opened by the owner of Big Planet. Forgot the name of the store.

I'm hoping to try it soon!

We actually got free SUP lessons from Wingnut 2 yrs ago in NH, very famous long boarder from the Endless Summer movie, very cool! Anyhow, it's not as easy as I thought it would be considering we all surf. They started me on a more advanced board and I spent half the time wiping out. After switching to a beginner board it was much better....anyhow I digress, it's lots of fun.

But.....one of our sons and his girlfriend tried to rent at Maho while we were at Francis in March. It wasn't so easy, I think they only had 2 boards available to rent and they were always in use. I'm thinking it might be easier to get them in Cruz Bay as mentioned above. Also, the wind can really screw you up, try to avoid the wind as you become a large sail, protected spots like Francis or Cruz would be best spots to learn for sure.

I thought maybe they had boards for rent at Cinnamon, too? But that would def not be the easiest place to learn. We did it in Maui last year and LOVED it. It's all about balance. Have fun!

We rented boards for a week from Arawak Expeditions in Mongoose Junction. They didn't require any lessons and it was so easy. You really shouldn't have any trouble unless you are super uncoordinated I think Maho is the best area for SUP.
