Bordeaux Mountain Road

It has been way too long since I stepped onto the dock!

Hoping to see a ticker in my future, I have a question.

Is Bordeaux Mountain Road (108) paved from Chateau Bordeaux all the way down to Coral Bay?

Thanks for any reply! :D

No, it is not all paved, but it is Jeep-able. The Bordeaux Mountain end, and the Coral Bay end are paved, but there's a section (or two?) in the middle that remains unpaved.

Is it still considered dangerous and a no-no to attempt with a rental vehicle?

Thank you, Lovermont! We'll be mid-mountain and I wondered if it would be a quicker trip to Coral Bay going down rather than up.

The unpaved portion of the road is really easy to navigate.Way better than John Head.I would say that you would need to be half way the up the mountain from Coral Bay for it to be worth the effort. If not I would just use Centerline. We stayed up there last summer and wore that road out.

lprof,
I just noticed this trip report over at TA that addresses the road. Not sure where you're going to be staying, but she weighs in on driving 108:

There's a road on Google Maps called Route 107 that looks like it goes from Centerline straight down to Lameshur. For some reason, I always thought that was the Bordeaux Mountain road.

Anyone know about that road? Is it drivable?

Just to be clear, maps that show a road from Bordeaux Mountain down to Lameshur are not correct. Although it shows as a numbered route, it is really just a foot path, also known as the Bordeaux Mountain Trail.

We jumped for the introductory rates at ********; it sounds like we will gravitate toward the closest paved road (whichever end it may be) most times. I have not asked the rental agency about this yet, but I will share after I do!
Thank you, again, Lovermont!

EagleRayLover, thank you for offering to tape it, but you will have places to go and things to do in June that will be much more rewarding! It is the smallest detail of our trip, yet one I wondered about... hopefully someone else will benefit from the question too!

I have seen Google maps with the Bordeaux Mountain Trail marked as 107; Lovermont is correct in her statement. 107 is the route from the Coral Bay Triangle to Little Lameshur Bay; it is paved until shortly after passing Salt Pond.

Thank you...on Google Maps for St. John, that dotted Bordeaux Mnt Trail on LProf's map is called Rte 107 and looks like any other road on the map...definitely deceptive.

We stay right behind Chateau Bordeaux. It is paved the whole way to Coral Bay.

Hi All,

I own Monkey No Climb which is right by Skyflower. Bill and Jan are our neighbors. I can honestly say that Bordeaux Mountain Road is no longer anything to fear. When we were last there in December 2011 there remained a three minute mostly flat section of the road which still needed to be paved. It might even be completely paved at this point. Route #108 is now your friend.

Thank you, Need2GetAway and Monkeynoclimb... we always rent a jeep and will most likely make our way on down the mountain to Coral Bay via Route 108 at least once!
