ability of a few to make a difference

with the car rental ban it was nice to see people ban together and work for a common cause
in this instance it actually made a difference...which is great......
I have seen our county fight the Federal Trade Commission for years (since the 1990's when satellite dishes started becoming popular). Neielsen ratings showed that people in our area watched Atlanta stations which was accurate since Mount Cheaha stood in the way of us receiving an Alabama station on an antennae which is how everyone received any reception at the time.
We have tried unsuccessfully to change our market. We don't have a clue about anything sports, news, political issues, weather, in our area unless we gather from the internet, radio, or newspaper. Since we finally have internet options (in most areas) this is less of a hassle.
After the tornadoes last year in April..the weathermen on all the Atlanta stations finally stopped standing right in front of our county and completely ignoring our county. We do get just a snippet of information before they move on to cover their main area of coverage which is Atlanta. (this is what they should be covering...) We should not even be in their coverage area.
now the local cable channel has been bought and they are removing the Alabama stations from their listings...after an outcry they have agreed to maybe keep one station.
Our local representatives have tried to help with this cause but the FTC can't seem to understand the problem. (even with town hall meetings, calls, letters, emails)
Directv and Dish are not able to let you choose your market which doesn't make sense either.
just glad to see that the forums, emails, letters, and calls can make a difference in some situations.
