Heading there in 3 days and have been looking at the weather. So when they say 50% chance of rain, what does that mean? Here in Oregon that would mean if in fact it rained it would rain all day most likely. And what is the weather suppose to be like anyways? I never trust the weather man, maybe some locals could chime in.

No worries. This question is asked all the time. I'm not on island, But depending on where you are getting your weather, it always says that it has a 50% chance of rain.
If it rains (and that is an IF) it will be short and be gone rather quickly. And it may be raining in one spot and not in another. More like passing tropical showers. Certainly not like oregon. Usually just enough to cool you off. It's not going to be the grey dreary sky like you have at home. After 3 trips i've only had one afternoon that was rained out. Plus it's a warm rain.

Also check the webcams and you can get a good sense of what is going on with the weather. Closest thing I could give you comparison wise would be summer thunderstorms. Little cloud builds up, then drops a few rain drops, then moves off.

Don't know what the % was for today but it was a beautiful, sunny, windy day.

I think today said 20%. I was all over the island today and saw no rain. Yesterday it said 50% and I saw no rain. It looked like it might have rained in Coral Bay when we were over on the north shore - but it couldn't have rained too much as the laundry we had hanging out on the line was totally dry. The only thing I've found helpful in the weather reports were the high surf warnings or the wind speed. Nothing else seems to be very reliable. We've been here a week and it's been fabulous. The most rain was on Saturday, and even that wasn't too bad.

I've given up checking the weather report before my trips because it always seems to say chance of rain for the entire time. Don't let the weather forecast get your spirits down because there might be a shower predicted for SOMEWHERE in the Caribbean and that doesn't mean that it will rain on STJ. In fact, if you watch the Spice Cam on a regular basis (like me) you'll notice that you can see showers on STT but it might be sunny and beautiful on STJ. Even if it does rain it's usually over in a short while and the sun comes back out.
