In search of villa gravity

I spend an insane amount of time trying to find the perfect villa. I laugh because there is no such thing. Every villa has it’s good and it’s bad. In my opinion, there are no terrible villas, just ones that I would not return to.

We can never stay for 2 weeks; work does not allow for it so the longest we can do is 8 days. There is always so much I want to fit into those 8 days. There are beaches and bars and restaurants I only get to see once a year. The thought of spending an entire day at the villa, while it sounds so darn relaxing, is hard for me to fully accept. What will I be missing if I don’t leave the villa? Yup, that villa that I spend months searching for and thousands to stay at! What if there are dolphins playing at Maho or what if James Taylor shows up at Gibney with a towel and his guitar? Yes, there are the things that enter my crowded brain when I think about letting villa gravity take over.

Maybe I can get over all those crazy thoughts and just enjoy the villa for an entire day this year but…. maybe not!


P.S. Just a note about my countdown musings. These are just my random thoughts and in no way are the meant to spark debate about the right way or the wrong way to vacation. There is not right or wrong and if you feel as though any of my random thoughts or comments are directed at you then you quite possibly need a vacation

when you spend so much of the vacation budget on lodging...it makes sense to take advantage of the great view that you paid so much for...BUT I imagine I will also be worried about what I am missing at some beach.....

and I really wanted an updated kitchen...but I may not cook except for breakfast....

Totally feel the same way and since I could not handle missing anything, I got up at 6 am ( that makes sense on vacation?) and sat in the hot tub and on the deck to enjoy the view for a few hours before others were ready to go . That way I had both! Not recommending this approach, but when I am in STJ I am too excited to sleep. The view was from Alessandra and was spectacular!

I never understood Villa Gravity until our first stay in Coral Bay - just saying.

Because I love the beach so much, I'm not a villa gravity girl. I would feel like I was missing out on beach time! Our gravity time is late afternoon-early evening.

We were lucky to be there 3weeks in Jan and still did not have a full gravity day at villa. The most we could squeeze in was a couple hours in the afternoon one day.

So much to see and do and still alot we need to explore.

You will love Coral Bay. We are going to the other side for the first time in June.

Villa gravity normally only hits me at night after a long day at the beach but I have enjoyed a few full days (although rare). On my last trip with a group of ladies we just couldn't seem to get motivated in the same direction at the same time so I sought out the hammock in a shady portion of the pool deck with a view of the water in the distance. I started off reading but swaying there in the breeze was pretty hypnotic and I spent a pleasant afternoon just vegging out. Let it be spontaneous....it's more delicious that way.

Villa gravity day. We took our first trip with our family last summer and I asked our 14 year old son and 10 year old daughter if they wanted to spend some time at the villa to swim, etc - they looked at me like I was nuts and my son answered we can relax when we are at home. I know how you feel about researching the villa and trying to get the "perfect" one. I feel we came very close with Casa Bueno for our first visit after looking for many many months. Have a wonderful vacation. We can not wait to come back again some day soon.
