A question for the villa veterans...

From what I can tell, most of the villas, at least most of the ones i checked out online, have different rates depending on the number of folks staying there.

So...if you're staying in a three bedroom villa and you're only a couple, are you supposed to only use one of the rooms?

I suppose no one would likely mind if you used one of the spares for your luggage and stuff, but what if you snore terribly and your traveling companion would like to move to another room to get some sleep?

Aug- Yea, you can use one of the other bedrooms...I think the rates for number of people are because of water usage.

Unfortunately it really depends on the villa and villa co. We have always had access to the entire house whether renting for 4 with a capacity of 8 or whatever. I have seen rates listed by the bedroom though.

I've used Caribbean Villas and Destination St. John and neither had made the extra rooms off limits. Also, Destination St John doesn't charge for kids under 6 (some do).

When you have your short list i would ask that question specifically and see what they say for the villas you are intersted in. It might make the decision for you. I personally would be peeved to feel "locked out" of part of a house I've rented.

I've stayed in some villas where the other bedroom doors were locked and you could only get in the ones you payed for then I have been in others that the whole house was open. Talking to my friends who own a couple on island the cleaning charge is the same if there is 2 people or 8 but where the extra exspenace comes form is the Electric and water used they are seeing 2000.00 a month electric bills.

I'll let you know. Tomorrow we check into Callaloo Villa through VIVA - 4 bedrooms for one couple. It's decadent, but a good deal with occupancy-based rates.

Callaloo has three buildings. It's likely that we will not use one of the buildings. But, I'm going to look at everything before we choose our bedroom.

Cheers, RickG

I think it really depends on the house. The only villa we've stayed in where we did not have access to the entire house was Golden Dragon. We had access to all of the main pod (master, bath, kitchen, living), plus the pool kitchen room and the laundry. There might have been a second bath over there too, I can't remember.

We did not have access to the two bedrooms located in the bedroom pod on the opposite side of the pool, or the bedroom located outside and under the main pod. Honestly, though, there was no need to have access to those areas of the house--they were so seperate.

Safe travels, Rick! Have a great trip!

It was explained to me the difference in rates depending on number of people is due to water usage since water is so expensive. As some people have noted, some villas will keep the "extra" bedrooms locked, while others will not.

I have read on some on the rental sites that extra bedrooms will be locked, but have never seen that done. Last year, we switched bedrooms due to the A/C not cooling to our liking. Nothing was said about our "using 2 bedrooms".

Hey Rick - I hope you have a great trip. Isn't Callaloo that villa with the strange bathrooms? You'll have to let us know how that works out for you.

Augie.....

Have a great time at Cielo Vista and be sure to post a trip report. Coming down Gifft Hill from Centerline, the villa is on the right. You'll pass the school on the left, then the famous blue "fork in the road" sign on the right.

I hate being locked out and unable to choose. When it's just DH and me we use one bedroom but most likely will use 2 baths. I always try to compensate for that in the housekerper's tip as there will be more towels to launder and another bathroom to clean.
