Good morning everyone! Just a quick question...

I'm traveling to St. John for New Year's. There will be six of us total. JetBlue is releasing its fares today at noon. Here is my question, ok well two questions:

1. From experience, do you all think I would be better off purchasing my tickets immediately or should I wait to see if they drop?

2. For those of you who have done the Xmas/New Year's thing on the island, what fare did you pay and from which airport?

We're in Connecticut and hoping to spending around $700 a person max. From what I've seen so far, that's a long shot. AA has had its fares hovering between $900 and $1100 the last month or so. Ouch!

Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks!

Are you flying out of Bradley?
I have found that the prices from Bradley are all over the place and normally just go up in price, although we always fly in the off season.

My highly scientific airfare system is to look at the flight times and find a price I am willing to pay and then just buy. We have seen that the flight normally goes up and rarely goes down. It is just luck of the draw.

Yes, I like Bradley because it's so convenient. Driving to NY is such a pain in the tush. I don't mid paying an extra hundred dollars or so for the convenience. But if it's several hundreds of dollars, then I'm going to have to suck it up and go to NY.

We are less than 10 minutes from Bradley so no matter what the price, we fly from there.
We are 2 hours to NY or Boston so it is not worth the price difference (no matter how much)

Just curious how you know when JB will open fares. I am looking for a January fare myself.

They sent me an email yesterday. I signed up for their TruBlue program. Fares will be available through January 6, 2013.

I would buy them just in case, with Jetblue if the price goes down they will give you back the difference, of course it goes into a "travel bank" that you can use on a future purchase you have a year to use it. You just have to keep checking they don't notify you if the prices go down, I saved almost $400 last year doing that.

I would just buy them. I started looking for tickets from Portland, Oregon last September and finally just bought mine about a month ago from Jetblue traveling at the end of this April. Prices did go up compared to when I first started looking, not much, but I ended up spending about 700 each. Have a great New Year.
