Reliability of the Bus

Hello fellow forumites and Happy Friday!

I am taking my son to St. John for his spring break in a few weeks and we are staying at our place at Grande Bay. We are not going to rent a car this time but really want to participate in a seminar held by the Friends of the Virgin Islands National Park which meets at Skinny Legs.

We could hitch a ride, but I am not comfortable doing that as a mom and son, so we are wondering about the reliability of the bus that goes to Coral Bay. We would need to be there at 10am on a Saturday and the event ends at 3pm. Of course if it ends at Skinny Legs, I might need to get a cool beverage before heading back to Cruz Bay!

Does anyone have any experience with the bus? I really don't want to get stuck in Coral Bay all night (although I know that really wouldn't suck too much!)

Thanks in advance - and I highly enoucrage all upcoming visitors to check out the seminar series offered by the Friends group. It goes until the end of April and there are some really interesting topics. Here is a link:

i have taken the buss back and forth without incident ( you have to wait a bit... and sometimes a long bit)-- but i know of others who have not had such good luck.... in the middle of the day-- i would hitch!

Yes - daily experience with it (or lack of it as it is now)

Currently the schedule is from Cruz Bay - 6am, 8am, 10:20am, 1:20pm, 3:20pm, 5:20pm, 7:20pm as we only have one bus running. These times have been consistent for the last 6 weeks except when the only "in service" bus needed needed new tires so it didn't run at all that day and the other day when it ran in the morning and broke down in the afternoon !!

Hope this helps

Call or email the Friends office and ask if they can help find a ride for you. They may well know who's going from Cruz Bay.

Thanks for the input everyone. I have decided to wait until I get on island and see how things look with the bus situation. I already have been in touch with the Friend's office and no others from the Cruz Bay area are currently signed up.

Either way, we'll have fun. I'm bringing some inflatable kayaks with me to try out and I can't wait!
